"Zelda: Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition Excludes DLC"

As anticipation builds for the Nintendo Switch 2, fans are increasingly frustrated and confused over the total cost of ownership—especially in the United States, where pricing seems to constantly shift. Just when you thought you had a handle on everything, another potential expense has surfaced: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include the Expansion Pass. That means if you don’t already own it, you’ll need to pay an extra $20 to access the DLC on the new system.

This might seem straightforward at first glance, but the situation is more nuanced than it appears. Since the recent announcement of Nintendo Switch 2 game pricing, confusion has only grown. Here's what we currently know: If you already own *Breath of the Wild* on the original Nintendo Switch, you can play that version on the Nintendo Switch 2—including any DLC you've previously purchased—without issue.

However, there's also the newly announced *Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition* of *Breath of the Wild*. This upgraded version features enhanced visuals and performance, support for achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" feature in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Existing owners of the original game won't receive these enhancements automatically, but they can purchase an "upgrade pack" for just $10 to unlock all of the new features.

Now, for players who have yet to experience *Breath of the Wild*, purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition will set them back $70—$10 more than the original retail price. This effectively covers the cost of the base game plus the upgrade pack. However, it's important to note that this version still **does not include** the Expansion Pass DLC. For full access to all content, including the DLC, players must pay an additional $20—bringing the total to **$90** for the complete *Breath of the Wild* experience on Nintendo Switch 2.

According to a statement from Nintendo: *"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC. That DLC is available as a separate purchase."*

While some may argue that this pricing structure is fair—especially since existing owners would have paid similar amounts over time—it's worth noting that many other publishers tend to reduce the price of older titles or bundle DLC into enhanced re-releases for newer platforms. At $90, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of a game originally released in 2017 (on Wii U no less) feels steep—particularly in light of other high-priced offerings like *Mario Kart World* at $80 and the rumored $450+ launch price for the Nintendo Switch 2 itself.

Of course, it's possible that most players who are interested in *Breath of the Wild* already own at least the base game, given its popularity. But if you’ve been holding out until now to jump in—especially in preparation for *Tears of the Kingdom*—you’ll want to factor in the full cost of entry before making your decision. The enhanced visual fidelity and new features might be tempting, but the financial commitment is nothing to ignore.
