The objective of Tute is to be the first to reach a predetermined number of points. Players use the traditional Spanish deck, which consists of forty cards. The hierarchy of cards, ranked from highest to lowest, assigns the following point values: Ace (11 points), 3 (10 points), King (4 points), Knight (3 points), Jack (2 points), followed by the 7, 6, 5, 4, and 2 (the latter being white cards with no value).
In gameplay, the suit of the first card played sets the lead. Players must follow suit if possible. If unable to follow suit, a player may play any card, including trump cards. The trick is won by the highest card of the trump suit if any are played; otherwise, it goes to the highest card of the leading suit.
