Krafton has officially rebranded Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons as part of their strategy to distance themselves from the ongoing legal issues surrounding Ironmace Studios. The name change primarily affects the title and possibly some elements specific to Dungeons & Dragons, but the core gameplay mechanics remain unchanged.
For those not in the loop, Ironmace Studios is currently entangled in a legal dispute with Nexon, who alleges that Ironmace misused trade secrets. The crux of Nexon's argument is that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized assets and ideas developed during their time at Nexon to create Dark and Darker. This lawsuit is still ongoing, and as previously reported in February, there were indications that Dark and Darker Mobile might undergo a name change. That change has now been confirmed with the new title, Abyss of Dungeons.
No difference
The rebranding to Abyss of Dungeons fortunately does not alter the core gameplay mechanics. Dark and Darker Mobile had already begun to diverge from its original version by introducing a third-person perspective and other modifications. Fans of Ironmace might feel a bit let down by this move, but the hope is that the studio's legal battles will resolve soon. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Abyss of Dungeons as a companion to the main PC release, with a soft launch scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
