Introducing Agadon the Hunter, a formidable new adversary set to replace the Marauder in the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages. Unlike the Marauder, Agadon isn't just an upgraded version but an entirely unique foe. He brings together traits from various bosses, showcasing the ability to dodge, evade, and even deflect projectiles aimed by the Doom Slayer. Players will face a barrage of combo attacks from Agadon, requiring them to master the use of a sawtooth shield, inspired by the mechanics of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice—a game that has significantly influenced the developers. This battle will serve as the ultimate test of the skills players have honed throughout the game, acting as a final exam of sorts.
The developers have chosen to retain the concept of a challenging boss similar to the Marauder, confident that players are prepared for an elevated challenge. Previously, the issue wasn't with the difficulty mechanics but rather how they were presented and explained. Many of the tactics needed to defeat the Marauder were unfamiliar to players as they hadn't been introduced earlier in the campaign, leading to frustration due to the sudden shift in gameplay pace. A more gradual introduction of mechanics and enhanced player preparation are expected to mitigate these concerns.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is slated for release on May 15, 2025, and will be available on current-gen consoles including PS5 and Xbox Series, as well as on PC via Steam.
