Street Fighter 6 has now surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, Capcom has officially announced. This marks a significant increase from the 4 million units reported in September 2024, with the recent milestone largely driven by the game’s launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Capcom strategically released Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2 at launch to "maximize the game’s userbase," aiming to expand its reach two years after the game’s initial release. The Switch 2 version introduces exclusive game modes and new gameplay enhancements that leverage the gyro controls of the Joy-Con 2, offering players a fresh and immersive fighting experience. Notably, the version supports crossplay, ensuring a broader and more connected player pool for online matchmaking.
“These initiatives have significantly contributed to Street Fighter 6’s broad appeal, global sales growth, and ultimately the achievement of selling 5 million units,” Capcom stated.
The game first reached 3 million copies sold in January 2024, just seven months after its launch. While Capcom has noted that Street Fighter 6 is “generally progressing in line with our expectations,” the company previously revealed a long-term sales target of over 10 million units—aiming to surpass the lifetime sales of its predecessor, Street Fighter 5. With 5 million sold, the game is halfway to that goal but still trails behind Street Fighter 5’s total of 7.8 million copies.
For context, classic entries in the franchise include Street Fighter 2 Turbo (4.1 million), the original Street Fighter 2 (6.3 million), and Street Fighter 5 (7.8 million). In comparison, Mortal Kombat 1, released in September 2023, has also reached 5 million units sold. Despite matching Street Fighter 6’s current sales, Mortal Kombat 1 is considered underperforming by industry standards—especially given Mortal Kombat’s status as the top-selling fighting game franchise. Developer NetherRealm has since moved on to its next project, leaving Mortal Kombat 1 behind.
Capcom remains committed to long-term support for Street Fighter 6, now entering its third year. The company recently unveiled a new DLC roadmap featuring four upcoming characters: Sagat, arriving summer 2025; C. Viper in fall 2025; Alex in early spring 2026; and Ingrid in late spring 2026. The announcement was made through a dynamic trailer featuring pro wrestler Kenny Omega, who portrayed each of the upcoming DLC fighters.
IGN’s review of Street Fighter 6 awarded the game a 9/10, praising it as “the most feature-rich Street Fighter at launch.” The review highlighted the game’s “excellent” 18-character roster, innovative mechanics that breathe new life into the one-on-one fighting genre, and its mastery of the essential details that define a top-tier fighting game.
