Tarot Cards are among the riskier Cursed Possessions you can encounter in *Phasmophobia*, yet they also offer some of the most potent benefits if luck is on your side. When you find Tarot Cards during your investigation, it's wise to use them in a secure part of the map, such as near a hiding spot or close to the entrance. This precaution can be a lifesaver if you draw a dangerous card like Death, giving you a chance to escape.
Each Tarot Card you draw will trigger an immediate effect unique to that card. However, there's always a chance you might draw The Fool, which acts like a Joker and results in no effect. You can draw up to 10 cards from the deck without affecting your sanity, and you might even draw duplicates, each with the same impact.
Here’s a detailed look at the 10 different Tarot Cards you might encounter, along with their effects and draw chances:
| Tarot Card | Effect | Draw Chance |
|---|---|---|
| The Tower | Doubles ghost activity for 20 seconds | 20% |
| The Wheel of Fortune | The user gains 25% sanity if the card burns green; loses 25% sanity if the card burns red | 20% |
| The Hermit | Forces the ghost back into its favorite room and traps it inside for 1 minute (cannot override hunts or events) | 10% |
| The Sun | Fully restores the user’s sanity to 100% | 5% |
| The Moon | Completely drains the user’s sanity to 0% | 5% |
| The Fool | Mimics another card before turning into The Fool; burns away and no effects happen | 17% |
| The Devil | Triggers a ghost event by the player nearest to the ghost, not necessarily the user | 10% |
| Death | Triggers a Cursed Hunt (20 seconds longer than normal hunt); drawing any more cards during | 10% |
| The High Priestess | Immediately revives a dead party member | 2% |
| The Hanged Man | Immediately kills the user | 1% |

In *Phasmophobia*, Cursed Possessions, also known as "Cursed Objects," are unique items that randomly appear on any contract map, influenced by difficulty settings or specific modes like Challenge Mode. Unlike your standard equipment, which helps locate and gather evidence of ghost activity with minimal risk, Cursed Objects can be seen as shortcuts or cheats to manipulate the ghost. However, using them comes with a much higher risk to your character's safety.
The safety level of these objects varies based on their abilities, and it's up to you and your team to decide whether the potential reward is worth the risk. Choosing not to use them incurs no penalty, but using them won't grant you any additional reward bonuses either.
Each contract features just one Cursed Possession, unless you adjust this in Custom settings, and each type has a fixed spawn location. For instance, the Voodoo Doll will always be found in the Garage at 6 Tanglewood Drive.
The game includes seven different types of Cursed Objects:
