After initially launching pre-registration earlier this year, InnoGames' newest puzzle game, Cozy Coast, is now available globally. By combining merge puzzler mechanics with a deep storyline, Cozy Coast aims to join the company's long list of successful mobile games from recent years.
Cozy Coast takes place on the Mediterranean island of Calista, where you play as friends Mia and Elara trying to revitalize the struggling seaside town they are in. You will need to engage with townspeople and get familiar with them while using merge-two mechanics to collect resources and rebuild the area.
There are many standard features here, such as an emphasis on storytelling and the simple yet escapist fantasy of living in a tropical location. Of course, all of that is overshadowed by something I'm sure has already caught your attention.
A bit off
It seems to me that Cozy Coast is making significant use of AI, which is disappointing since InnoGames has never lacked in design or visual appeal.
I'm not here to argue whether AI is good or bad, but it's clearly unnecessary and somewhat unattractive in this case, which takes away from what otherwise appears to be a solid entry in the merge genre.
I don't believe there will be many who are bothered by it, but personally, it lacks the usual charm seen in other InnoGames releases like Heroes of History.
Certainly, Cozy Coast will face strong competition upon its release. Just look at our list of the best puzzle games on iOS to understand what I mean. So here's hoping that mechanically Cozy Coast can make up for any shortfalls it has aesthetically.
