Nvidia RTX 5060 Launched: Should You Wait?

Nvidia officially unveiled the GeForce RTX 5060 alongside the more powerful RTX 5060 Ti back in April 2025, but the budget-friendly option has now officially launched following an announcement at Computex.

RTX 5060 Pricing and Specifications

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 starts at a competitive $299, offering 3,840 CUDA cores spread across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors. This makes it a compelling choice for 1080p gaming, which is exactly the resolution Nvidia is targeting with this GPU. In fact, Team Green claims the RTX 5060 can deliver impressive performance figures, such as hitting up to 223 fps in *Doom: The Dark Ages* at 1080p with ultra settings—though this does include DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation set to 4x.

DLSS 4’s Multi-Frame Generation is one of the standout features of this generation, and despite being the most affordable card in the Blackwell lineup, the RTX 5060 supports the full suite of DLSS technologies. However, with only 30 SMs, there are limits to how much frame generation can enhance performance.

Price Variants and Features

It's important to note that the $299 MSRP is the starting price. While entry-level models will be available at that level, many variants will come at a premium, often including added features like factory overclocking, enhanced cooling solutions, and RGB lighting—giving buyers a range of options depending on their budget and preferences.

Performance Expectations and Review Availability

Despite its attractive price point, potential buyers are advised to hold off until real-world reviews become available. Nvidia has made bold performance claims, but these are largely based on scenarios using DLSS 4 with frame generation enabled. Without independent testing, it’s hard to assess true performance in traditional gaming workloads.

Adding to the wait, Nvidia has not provided early review samples or pre-launch drivers to media outlets, meaning comprehensive performance analysis won't be available during the first week of launch. Based on prior releases, the RTX 5060 should offer solid 1080p performance, though generational gains across the Blackwell series have been somewhat modest so far.

In response to questions about performance uplift over the previous-gen RTX 4060, Nvidia stated that with frame generation enabled, performance could nearly double. However, in standard rasterized games without ray tracing or frame interpolation, the gain is expected to hover around 20%—and that’s likely under ideal conditions.

Final Advice

As with any major tech purchase, it's wise to wait for in-depth reviews before making a decision. They will help ensure you’re getting the best value and performance for your specific gaming needs. Rest assured, those reviews are coming—just give them a few days to roll out.
