Techs Call for Urgent Oblivion Remastered Patch Over Camera Crashes

Tech analysts report widespread performance issues in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered across all console versions, leaving players eagerly awaiting essential fixes.

The remastered edition launched to tremendous success, surpassing 4 million players and earning a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam. Nevertheless, persistent performance concerns remain its Achilles' heel.

Digital Foundry's comprehensive testing reveals systemic technical problems affecting every console platform. Analyst Thomas Morgan commented on Virtuos' Unreal Engine 5 overhaul:

Every platform experiences difficulties, from PS5 and PS5 Pro to both Xbox Series variants. The open world suffers from noticeable traversal stuttering, inconsistent sub-60fps performance that worsens over time (potentially indicating memory leaks), and disruptive crashes that frequently return players to system menus when loading saves.

These issues become particularly evident during extended play sessions, where performance noticeably deteriorates compared to fresh starts. Morgan noted unexpected emergent bugs during prolonged gameplay, including an unusually elevated horseback camera view that requires restarting to correct.

The apparent memory leak causing progressive performance degradation raises serious concerns, compounded by the repetitive save-loading crashes.

Players hope Bethesda will prioritize resolving these technical issues quickly, especially as extended playthroughs of this massive RPG make these problems increasingly unavoidable.

"Such fundamental stability problems represent a critical failure for any remaster," Morgan emphasized. "Virtuos must prioritize fixing these crashes immediately."

Digital Foundry's analysis questions whether the remaster was prematurely released, noting version discrepancies where an Xbox Series X hotfix hasn't reached PlayStation platforms.

While consoles suffer these technical setbacks, PC players face their own challenges - Digital Foundry previously described that version's performance as equally problematic.

Despite its technical shortcomings, Oblivion Remastered achieved remarkable commercial success, becoming 2025's third-best-selling U.S. game within a week of its surprise April 22 launch, trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

The Virtuos-developed remaster delivers substantial visual upgrades through Unreal Engine 5, including native 4K/60fps support and comprehensive improvements to leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and interfaces. New features like expanded dialogue, refined third-person perspective, and enhanced facial animations have led some players to consider it closer to a full remake - though Bethesda maintains its classification as a remaster.

As players explore Cyrodiil anew, veteran adventurers recommend completing Kvatch early before level scaling increases its difficulty. Remarkably, some explorers have breached geographical boundaries to visit unofficial regions like Valenwood, Skyrim, and Hammerfell - the rumored setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
