Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 fans are celebrating after developers granted modders access to the game's internal editor, raising hopes the title could achieve Skyrim-level longevity through community-created content.
Game director Dmitry Grigorenko surprised the Space Marine 2 modding community by announcing what he called "our most significant step yet in supporting modders" through the official Discord server.
Saber Interactive has made their professional Integration Studio available to the public - the same toolkit the development team uses internally. This initial release empowers modders to manipulate level scenarios, game modes, AI behaviors, combat mechanics, UI elements, and more, making Space Marine 2 mod creation far more accessible.
"When I promised we'd support modding, we meant business," Grigorenko stated. "Watching this community grow and push creative boundaries has been incredibly inspiring. We can't wait to see what you'll create next - whether it's cinematic campaigns, innovative game modes, or something completely unexpected."
The developer humorously showcased the toolkit's potential by sharing concept art for a "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game - a playful nod to Ultramarines Chapter Master Marneus Calgar.

Tom, the modder behind the popular Astartes Overhaul, has already leveraged these new tools to implement 12-player co-op support. He now has script-level control over mission parameters, weapon behaviors, and ability systems - opening possibilities like a roguelike survival mode where players start with just a combat knife against increasingly difficult Tyranid swarms.
While full narrative campaigns (like a Chaos-focused story) remain challenging without animation tools, the community is actively working to introduce new factions including the Tau and Necrons. Meanwhile, many modders have taken up Grigorenko's tongue-in-cheek challenge to develop the Calgar fishing mini-game first.
This development arrives as particularly welcome news to fans. While Space Marine 2 has been critically and commercially successful, its base game only includes three factions (Space Marines, Chaos forces, and Tyranids). With Saber already announcing Space Marine 3, some players feared the sequel might receive diminished support - making these modding tools even more valuable for extending the game's lifespan.
"This is exactly how you give a game Skyrim-level staying power," commented Reddit user Mortwight, echoing widespread optimism in the community.
