In a revealing interview, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the former lead quest designer of The Witcher 3, disclosed that CD Projekt Red initially harbored doubts about merging a grand narrative with an open-world structure. Despite their initial hesitations, the team successfully blended expansive storytelling methods, typically associated with linear RPGs, into their open-world masterpiece.

"Few games have ventured into what we attempted: merging intricate storytelling, often confined to corridor-like designs as seen in The Witcher 2, into an expansive open world," said Tomaszkiewicz.

At first, the developers feared that the ambitious scope of their narrative might conflict with the freedom inherent in open-world gameplay. Undeterred, they forged ahead, ultimately crafting one of the most acclaimed RPGs in history.

Today, Tomaszkiewicz leads Rebel Wolves, the studio behind The Blood of Dawnwalker. Set in an alternate medieval Eastern Europe steeped in dark fantasy, the game revolves around vampires as central characters. Developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms, The Blood of Dawnwalker remains unannounced regarding its release date. However, fans are eagerly anticipating a gameplay showcase this summer.
